A Year in the Life of an Aspen Mountain Bride

Just one year ago, Carla Frates Meyer and Hunter Simpson Powell were married atop Aspen Mountain at The Little Nell. Having crested their first anniversary, the pair looks back on the past twelve months and also has exciting news to share for the coming year…

It all began on June 27, 2015, with a destination wedding the bride describes as a “perfect day” in every way.  Starting at 4:30 p.m., guests began boarding the Silver Queen Gondola to ride to the ceremony at 11,212’ on the Wedding Deck. A flower-laden cross featuring pops of loose white flowers stood behind their St. Louis pastor who described the sublime setting as “close to Heaven as you get.”

Carla’s two sisters were co-matrons of honor and her three best friends were bridesmaids, all dressed in blush pink.

Hunter’s dad was his best man, and his brother and three best friends were groomsmen, styled in navy suits with grey ties.

Their three nephews were ring bearers while her little niece was the flower girl.

Afterward, guests gathered for cocktails at the Aspen Mountain Club then a reception in the beautifully-appointed Sundeck with greenery, leaves, white and pink flowers on the tables. Dinner then dancing ensued with everyone onto their feet to celebrate the newlyweds.

The couple next jetted to the Caribbean island of St Lucia to spend nine days at The Sugar Beach Viceroy.

After the honeymoon, they returned to St. Louis, and Hunter’s work in acquisitions and Carla’s post as a high school guidance counselor. Over the past year, they’ve continued to visit Aspen, most recently over the 4th of July this summer when they returned to the Wedding Deck and reminisced about their big day a year prior.

“It was truly a magical day for us getting to be surrounded by all of the people we love in such a beautiful place.  It was so awesome to share Aspen, such a special place, with so many of our favorite people,” Carla added.

They also stopped by The Little Nell to share their news with the events team – Carla’s expecting their first child on September 1! We wish them well with their next chapter and look forward to welcoming them back as a family on their next visit.
