The Little Nell – New + Improved

Summer delights await at Aspen’s premier hotel property

New at The Little Nell in Aspen

As off-season winds down and the bustling summer season bursts to life, locals and guests will be treated to a whole new atmosphere at the already classic Little Nell.

With renovations to nearly every area of the hotel’s public spaces and restaurants, lead by the team at Champalimaud, the five-star management team promises a refined, refreshing experience.

Begin with the reception area and living room, where the centerpiece — the fireplace — was updated with a dark metal clad facade, while the entire area was redesigned to be more social, highlighting the “convivial nature” of The Nell’s tradition.

Also worth noting, are the new artistic elements. For example, the sculptural reception desk offers a nod to the hotel’s history as an “art” hotel: “Fine art is very much the ethos of The Little Nell and the newest designs include more references that reinforce the heritage,” the team notes.

The same holds true as you move through the lobby area, where Harry Bertoia’s sound sculptures gave inspiration to the screens between the lobby and living room, while the carpet in the lower living room was inspired by the artwork and aesthetic of Paula Crown, whose family owns The Little Nell.

And when it comes to dining and imbibing, the Nell is now serving up a whole new vibe.

At Chair 9, “The ‘Aspen’ narrative carries into the space with a mixture of woods to create a luxurious, contemporary, cabin-like feeling” says the creative forces behind Chair 9’s new vision. This is accented by a custom chandelier reminiscent of cairns on Colorado hiking trails.

Ajax Tavern is similarly revitalized thanks to the Rowland + Broughton team, with a palette that combines a lighter oak with red leather booths, blackened metal hanging lights and other accents such as camel leather chairs. The restaurant was also reconfigured to allow for better flow, making the experience for 93 indoor guests and 131 on the patio truly relaxing.

In all, the “new” Nell will bring the hotel even one step beyond the best.
