Clean the World – One Bar at a Time

Earth Day is Sunday, April 22, so we thought we’d share a fun little eco-factoid from the hotel.

Ever wonder what happens to the half-used bar of soap or partially used bottle of shampoo once you check out of The Little Nell?

Gioanna Villabrille, The Little Nell’s executive housekeeper, asked the question and identified an alternative to putting these items in the trash. In partnership with Clean the World, hotel staff collect used bath items, then ship them to a facility where they are cleaned and repackaged, or molded for distribution to children and families around the globe who need soap to stay clean and healthy.

In 2011 TLN recycled 1,150 pounds of soap and shampoo. Might seem like a small amount, but imagine how many small bars of soap or shampoo that is!

It’s programs like this that helped us be named the 2011 “Greenest Hotel” by the Colorado Hotel and Lodging Association.
