Wedding of the Month – Mawa and Daniel

How did you two meet?

We met nine years ago in Kennebunkport, Maine. Daniel and I were working for the same company but at different restaurants. Nothing ever happened between us at the time, but then we met two years ago in Kennebunkport again. He thought I was cute and interested in him, but I was really just flirting with him to get a free dinner! The rest is history.

How did you pick your venue/Aspen to get married?

Originally we planned our wedding to be in Vermont, but after the engagement, Daniel was very impressed with Melina (the events director at The Little Nell). We were both blown away with her work, genuine interest, care and understanding, so we decided to move it to The Little Nell in Aspen, Colorado.

What was the hardest part of the wedding planning process?

We are both very busy people and don’t take a lot of time focusing on details. Luckily Melina and her team at The Little Nell, including Shawna and Lindsay, made sure all the little etiquette details were followed. I didn’t know how to pin on a flower, but thankfully they did! Melina was essentially a counselor during some of the wedding planning while I was dealing with some family issues, and Shawna helped me organize my bridal shower. I don’t think I could have done all of it without their help and guidance.

What was your favorite thing you ate at your wedding?

The wedding cake was amazing and such a signature piece from Daniel Riesz, pastry chef at The Little Nell. I grew up in France, and Daniel grew up in Germany. She made sugar cutouts of the Eiffel Tower and the Brandenburg Gate for some wonderful personal touches of where we are both from and where many of our wedding guests live.

Any advice for other brides?

Just let The Little Nell handle everything from the bridal shower to the rehearsal dinner to the wedding. And the next event we are going to plan is the baby shower. Can’t wait to see what fun items the events team will come up with for that! 🙂

Anything else to add?

We wanted to thank the whole Little Nell Team for the amazing wedding weekend. The Little Nell Suite and all the amenities they provided were such a nice touch. The bridal shower in the Wine Room was beyond compare, so I have to specifically call out “Chubby” and his team there.
