Life as a Sommelier…Uncorked!

When the leaves change from green to gold and the summer crowds give way to intimate groups of travelers, The Little Nell’s Who’s Who team hits the road to experience (first-hand) the latest trends in the industry.  In search of great wine and the perfect southwestern cheeseburger, Master Sommelier Jonathan Pullis recently exchanged the majestic Rocky Mountains for the artful desert community of Santa Fe.

Life of a Sommelier…Uncorked!

I just returned from the Santa Fe Wine & Chile Fiesta; what a great event!  This celebration includes wine seminars, cooking demos, guest chef tours, tastings and even a golf competition (similar to the Food & Wine Magazine Classic in Aspen).  The week celebrates food and wine and I was more than happy to indulge in each.  Over the course of 4 days, I participated in 7 wine seminars and made it my personal mission to find the best green chile cheeseburger* in New Mexico.  What a treat for me!  Do I really get to do this for a living?  I was also fortunate enough to have the opportunity of tasting a 1991 Napa Cab.  If you happen to own any 1991 Napa Cabernets, you are in for a treat ~ they are still delicious!  I also was lucky enough to taste Spottswoode Estates Vineyard & Winery Cabernet from 2001 through 2007 (I highly recommend the 2001 and 2007!).

I’m off to NYC this weekend to compete in the Sommelier Smackdown!  Wish me luck, as I intend to bring home the “Best Blind Taster” in America award!
