Go Behind the Scenes With The Little Nell’s Team

“Can you think of another job in the hotel industry where an employee can spend two to four hours of one-on-one time with a guest?” – Steve Goff, Ski Concierge

The Little Nell is known around the world for exquisite service, fine dining, and once in a lifetime adventures. To deliver this experience to our guests each day, we have a bustling team that is passionate about everything they do.

For once, we’d like to take you behind the scenes of The Nell so you can learn more about what makes our team so unique and passionate.

The Team

The Nell team consists of the front drive, front desk, concierges, adventure guides, ski instructors, cooks, chefs, sommeliers, and art curators (to name a few). These talented Nell employees are from all over the world, many returning each year to continue their work.

The Front Drive

Front Drive- Bellman

The current front drive consists of:

  • 1 Guest Services Director
  • 3 Transportation Coordinators
  • 3 Doormen
  • 12 Valets
  • 1 Shuttle Driver
  • 6 Drivers
  • 4 Bellmen

This stacked team ensures that transportation throughout Aspen and Snowmass is coordinated flawlessly. The moment you arrive in Aspen, your experience is utmost important, and this team ensures that your arrival and departure are just as smooth as your powder days.

Concierge & Adventure Guides

Adventure Guides

When you stay at The Nell, you have access to knowledgeable concierges who can book any number of adventures for you. These iconic adventures range from fly-fishing to Snowcat Powder tours. Our team of adventure guides is experienced and personal, allowing you a memorable afternoon, no matter which adventure you seek.

We have more than 15 adventure guides at The Nell. Some are Aspen locals, and some have relocated to be in the epicenter of The Rocky Mountains.

One of these adventure guides is Steve Goff, lead adventure concierge and Colorado Tourism Nominee. When asked about his favorite part of being a ski concierge, he commented,

My favorite part of the job is on the front lines, the one-on-one relationship building with our guests who return year after year. Unlike any job I have ever had, the relationships and friendships I have formed with guests around the world make the position worth it!”

On behind the scenes preparation, he noted,

“What may surprise guests is the amount of work we do to ensure their trip success and the ease with which our teams carry themselves. We are very professional, get the job done, and go above and beyond each day, but not in an overly structured corporate way. We personalize their visit and customize their adventures without feeling stuffy.  It’s friendly, easy, care-free and fun – for both our team and our guests.”

Chefs & Cooks

Cooks and chefs Nell

The Nell’s chefs and cooks are as diverse as the restaurants themselves. At element 47, our finest spot to wine and dine, our executive chef, Matt Zubrod oversees the kitchen. Underneath Matt is Keith Theodore and Patrick Dunn, executive sous-chef and chef de cuisine, respectively.

This trio, along with other talented cooks and managers, works closely with farms in the Roaring Fork Valley to create exquisite menus for each season.

Sommeliers

Sommeliers at The Nell

As impressive as our food-centric team is, our sommeliers hold their own. A team of 50 sommeliers ensures that The Nell wine programs are successfully run. This team includes 23 Introductory, 17 Certified, two Advanced, and one Master Sommelier. Year-round training keeps the team updated on the latest offerings and new wine experiences keep our guests intrigued year after year.

One way to go behind the scenes with our master sommelier is to book a dinner in The Nell’s wine cellar. This unembellished basement room is a working cellar, and you can see how we organize our 20,000+ bottles.
