The Perfect Accessory For Your Pup

At The Little Nell, it’s important to us that every guest feels like royalty – including pooches! We think PoochieBoots are the perfect accessory to protect your pooch’s paws, and in true #NellStyle. We asked PoochieBoots founder, Karyn Pek, to answer a few questions about her fashionable kicks for dogs.Poochie bootsQ: How did you come up with the idea for creating the PoochieBoots brand?
A: While on a snowy walk in Central Park last winter, my dog Riley stopped in his tracks and pitifully held up one paw and then the other over and over. He was clearly hurting from the salted sidewalks. I gently nudged him home, then set out to find dog boots. After trying several brands, I became frustrated that I couldn’t find high quality boots that fit well. With a city full of dogs, I assumed I was not alone, so I set out to solve a problem, and PoochieBoots launched November 2015. My interior design background and my own personal love of shoes gave me the idea to create high quality, great fitting boots with fashionable, detachable, interchangeable straps. One set of boots with endless high fashion options inspired by the most fashionable shoe designers – Louboutin, Manolo, Prada, Valentino, etc.

Q: Why do you think PoochieBoots represent #NellStyle?
A: Skiing has always been my passion, and my dog Riley has always been one of my great loves. I have always thought Aspen skiers were the most stylish, and The Little Nell was the place to stay. #NellStyle is all about luxury, attention to detail, and pampering guests (and their dogs, too!) Every detail of PoochieBoots, from the fit to the fabrics, has been well thought out. So now, like their fashionable owners, dogs can go from NYC hipster to Aspen glamorous with the change of a strap, which is most definitely #NellStyle.

Q: What type of weather do you recommend dogs wear boots in?
A: Boots are a must on salted sidewalks and on very cold days. Even when dogs walk on pristine snow, it accumulates into ice balls and those ice balls get stuck between their pads, and that becomes quite painful. Also, in very hot climates such as Arizona, Florida, and even parts of California, paws need protection from hot pavements and hot sand. And on a rainy day, it’s nice for pooches to come in with clean, dry paws, vs. wet, muddy ones.

poochiebootsQ: How does PoochieBoots support the canine community?
A: We donate $4 from the sale of every set of boots and $1 from the sale of every set of accessory straps to The Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals, a 501(c)(3) non-profit charity and the sole umbrella organization for animal welfare in NYC. Since 2003, we have been working with our coalition of 150+ rescue groups and shelters to find homes for thousands of New York City’s dogs and cats. Our goal is to transform New York City into a no-kill community by 2015, where no dogs or cats of reasonable health or temperament are killed simply because they do not have homes.

Q: Where can dog owners find PoochieBoots?
A: Right now PoochieBoots are only available online at www.poochieboots.com.
